This Week in Chester History…
In 1937, The Mendham-Chester Tribune reported that Chester Justice of the Peace Herman A. Rademacher, Sr., saw two cases of assault and battery. One of the cases was dismissed on the grounds of no cause for action. Charles Walker had brought charges against R.J. Smith (both of South Road) claiming that he had been struck defending his right of way. Smith, whose lawn had been run over by the plaintiff’s car exploded, “I’m only sorry I didn’t hit him harder.”
