This Week in Chester History…

In 1937, Billy Dee passed away at the age of 73. Dee has been miscredited as having invented the curve ball pitch (most historians believe it was William Arthur Cummings who threw his pitches 20 years prior to Billy Dee’s 1881 curve pitch). However, it is known that Dee was Chester Postmaster in 1892, Morris County Freeholder from 1913-1916, and a grocery store manager for more than 40 years. Source: Mendham-Chester Tribune
