This Week in Chester History…
In 1937, a truck carrying bottled and canned milk from the Welsh Creamery in Long Valley crashed into a large tree at the Ralston Bridge on the way to Mendham. The driver, Herbert Newton, said the engine stalled and the brakes failed before he could stop the trailer from being separated from the tractor by the sizable sycamore. Much of the milk could not be saved. However, Swackhammer’s Garage removed would could be salvaged from the 300 cases. Source: Mendham-Chester Tribune
