This Week in Chester History…
In 1956, Chester Public School announced it would open a new school library, not connected with the Chester Free Public Library, in the former visual-aids room by October 15. The library would be staffed with volunteers under the direction of a PTA committee. The state minimum for school library books in 1956 was 5000. The Chester Public School library would start with 1200 books. Source: The Mendham-Chester Tribune.
