Chester Library Unveils Nearly 400 Images of Historic Chester

Chester, N.J. – February 26, 2018 – Chester Library has added 392 digital images to the Wyckoff Family Collection Finding Aid, making it easy for researchers to locate online visual resources of historic Chester. The topics covered by the new images include Businesses, Churches, Chester Fire Company, Main Street, Railroads and Mining, Schools, and Side Roads, among others. Donated by local historian, Joan Case, the Wyckoff Family Collection spans several generations of the Wyckoff and Case families from 1867-2016 (with gaps), and a short period of the Budd family from the end of the 19th century through the beginning of the 20th. The collection contains photographs, legal documents, educational and sporting materials, correspondence, and other items that document more than 150 years of Chester, N.J. history. Case digitized the images donated to the library, and the Local History Librarian reformatted them for web viewing.

The Local History Department of the Chester Library in Chester, New Jersey is a resource for reference and original materials that document Chester, Morris County, and N.J. history. The purpose of the Local History Department is to collect, preserve, describe, and make accessible these materials to the local community, as well as to visiting and online researchers.

The Chester Library serves the residents of Chester Borough and Chester Township, New Jersey. The library houses a collection of over 70,000 books, DVDs, CDs, video games, audio books and e-books. In addition, it offers a wide array of adult, teen and children’s programs, public computers, online research services and community meeting rooms.
