In 1937, the Chester Patriotic Order of Americans elected the following officers: Mabel Hoffman as president, Grace Sutton as assistant president, Madelyn Emmons as vice-president, Ada Tredway as assistant vice-president, Grace Emmons as conductor, Delia DeWitt as assistant conductor, Mae Conklin as recording secretary, Sarah Thompson as assistant recording secretary, Lillie Hughson as financial secretary, Minnie Blaine as treasurer, Hazel Apgar as guardian, Nellie Schuyler as sentinel, and Elizabeth Keller as chaplain. This Week in Chester History…

In 1937, Chester School, Chester Boy Scouts, and Camp 82 of the Patriotic Order of Americans responded to the Red Cross’ call to raise funds for those affected by flooded areas along the Ohio River and throughout the Mississippi River Valley. The Mendham-Chester Tribune¬†said radio announcements about the devastation in 11 states inspired the groups to raise whatever they could.
