This Week in Chester History…
In 1955, at Chester School, the new school budget of $180,026.50 passed, up almost $48,000 over the previous year’s appropriations. Local taxes would be increased a total of $38,000 to pay for the new budget. The lion’s share of the increase was attributed to increased transportation costs. Source: The Mendham-Chester Tribune.
This Week in Chester History…
In 1955, the Mendham-Chester Tribune profiled Richard (Dick) Shotwell of Hillside Road on the front page. The article highlighted the fact that Dick had been one of the first students at the Chester School. In 1944, he also was one of the first three men to be drafted from Chester.
