This Week in Chester History…

In 1960, Mrs. Frank Carroll, Mrs. George Booker, Mrs. Charles Robert Shaw, and Mrs. J. Holmes attended a leadership training school at Drew University. The Observer-Tribune reported that the school was sponsored by the Synod of New Jersey of the United Presbyterian Church. The attendees from the Chester Community Presbyterian Church intended to become more involved in advanced programs for both day and evening work of the Women’s Association.


This Week in Chester History…

In 1955, at the Township Hall, the Chester League of Women Voters hosted a talk by Dr. D. Thurston Griggs, Assistant Professor of History and International Relations at Drew University in Madison. Prior to Griggs’ presentation on “Individual Liberties and the Bill of Rights,” Leonard Philhower screened the film “Creation of the Bill of Rights.” Source: The Mendham-Chester Tribune.
