This Week in Chester History…

In 1955, Leonard Barker of the Bernays Apgar Post No. 342 was named State American Legion Contact Representative with Lyons Veterans Administration Hospital. The Mendham-Chester Tribune said he was installed at the hospital on Armistice Day, with ceremonies featuring the Bound Brook Drum and Bugle Corps.

In 1955, a committee from the Bernays Apgar Post of the American Legion entertained and visited patients at Lyons Hospital for Veterans. The members were Mrs. Elizabeth Apgar, Willard Apgar, John Apgar, Mrs. George Apgar, Mrs. Hazel Apgar, and Leonard Barker. Barker was the state representative of the American Legion at Lyons.
