This Week in Chester History…

In 1937, children played pranks on adults by hanging signs on their fences and doors reading “BEWARE — MEASLES” and “Danger if you catch it.” The Mendham-Chester Tribune‘s editor’s home had been hung with such a sign, and the paper announced that editor was well and measles-free.


This Week in Chester History…

In 1955, half the children of Mrs. Barnes’ morning kindergarten class of the Chester School were out sick with the measles. Measles vaccines were not licensed for distribution until 1963. Source: The Mendham-Chester Tribune.
