This Week in Chester History…

Robert Minard of Fox Chase Road was named Chief Observer for the Civilian Defense Observation Post, and Mrs. Kenneth Dean was named Supervisor of the post, said the Mendham-Chester Tribune in 1955. The Chester Borough CD observation post was one of the last three in the state to have assigned observers.

In 1955, William H. Conover, Jr. was elected Mayor of Chester Township, and Arnold Nichols was sworn into office as Mayor of Chester Borough. Conover succeeded Robert K. Minard, who served three years in the post. Nichols previously served as Borough Mayor for two terms prior to Lester Clee, who resigned due to a move out of the area.
