This Week in Chester History…

In 1938, the Mendham-Chester Tribune reported a car accident between a Ford Coach and a “new” Dodge on Route 31 (now 206) near Hacklebarney Road. George Mitchel of Thompson Avenue hit Marion Waldron of Oldwick when she stopped short. Waldron’s car spun and hit a fence, where it broke an iron post. A passenger in the car, Mrs. C.E. Dickinson, also of Oldwick, was treated for a broken rib.

In 1937, John Apgar lost control of his car on Route 31, past the intersection of the Chester Road, near his home. His car left the sloping road and ran into a bank. The car flipped over as a result of the crash. Passenger David Apgar, John’s uncle, was severely injured with cuts to his head. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.  Source: Mendham-Chester Tribune.
