This Week in Chester History…

In 1937, Chester Borough selected the firm of Barker and Gordon to collect the taxpayer’s rubbish. It was decided at the regular council meeting that Barker and Gordon would pick up the trash four times a year. Source: Mendham-Chester Tribune


This Week in Chester History…

In 1938, Chester Township passed an ordinance prohibiting dumping of “garbage, ashes, trash, debris, rubbish, waste paper, motor vehicle junk and other refuse matter” in the municipality. The penalty for dumping was a fine of $50 for the first offense and $100 for each offense thereafter. Source: The Mendham-Chester Tribune
