This Week in Chester History…

In 1955, Chester Township Mayor William Conover announced that three additional fire sirens would be installed as a result of an agreement between Chester Borough and Township, and the Federal Civil Defense Administration. The new sirens were deemed necessary after local Civil Defense members said they were unable to hear signals from the one siren located in the Borough during the previous week’s air raid test.
