In 1956, the West Morris Regional High School District board voted to abandon building the new school on the site donated by Mrs. Chubb due to the architect’s and engineer’s reports. The engineer, William W. Holman of Greer Engineering Associates in Montclair, reported that because mining operations had once been carried on in the area, it would make subsurface drilling economically unfeasible.
